Oollo Tea’s Gongfu Honey | Tea Review

Description: “A light and smooth blend with a beautiful golden hue. The flavour is beautifully honeyed with a sweet finish.” – via Amoda Monthly Box

Review: This is the first tea I’ve received from the Amoda Monthly Box that recommended using a gaiwan. A gaiwan is part of a larger Chinese tea ceremony, known as Gongfu tea ceremony, which I am still fairly new to. Generally, you use less water and steep your tea leaves at shorter time intervals with multiple infusions. My gongfu ‘ceremony’ is slightly hodgepodge because I am still trying to gather all the equipment required.

With this tea, it packaging recommended four infusions. The dry leaves had a nice earthy aroma, which became more roasted when wet.

Steep 1 – Nice malt flavours with a lingering floral note

Steep 2 – The malty notes aren’t as strong, instead, it lingered in the mouth and ended with slight sweetness

Steep 3 – This steep was very similar to Steep 2

Steep 4 – This, to me personally was the infusion I enjoyed the most. The liquor was smooth, and the honey sweetness really came through

The liquor stayed a fairly consistent copper colour and had a nice range of flavours. I think if I were to try this tea again, I would steep it for longer intervals because I find that helped bring out the flavours best (3/5 rating).
