Momo Tea’s Matsu – Uji Matcha | Tea Review

Momo Tea Matsu Uji Matcha Green Tea Spoon

Description: “Matsu will be good for daily Matcha use. Its still delicious enough to use as a Tea Ceremony practice.”

Review: This matcha was hand ground in Uji, Kyoto. While ceremonial grade matchas are very popular, a matsu is perfect for everyday use and has a lower price point. The powder was fine, without any hard lumps, and a vibrant green colour. It also had a sweet subtle grassy aroma.

After whisking, the liquor developed a lovely amount of foam that covered the top of the bowl. It had a thick texture that resided on the tongue after sipping. The matcha had very strong grassy notes and a fair bit of bitterness, and its taste lingered in the mouth.

Personally, am not the biggest grassy fan, so I think that I would like this better as a latte, which may tame down some of the grassy bitterness for me. Overall, I think this was a good example of a matcha (3/5 rating).
