CitizenTea Creamy Nut Oolong Tea Spoon

Description: “We took crisp apple pieces and blended them with swirls of creamy caramel, nutty almond and a buttery oolong tea for a guilt-free way to indulge in your favourite treat.”

Review: CitizenTea is a Canadian tea brand I have been eyeing for some time now since they have a wide range of blends. However, I have a self-imposed a tea ban on myself because I want to finish some of the teas I already have (but I admit I sometimes buy a thing here or there).

When I saw that CitizenTea had an Instagram giveaway, I wrote down the tea I wanted to try (Creamy Nut Oolong), without expecting anything. So, you can imagine how excited I was when I received a Direct Message saying that I had won!

The tea was shipped to me quickly and I was also provided 3 samples: Mint Currant Green, Exotic Berries Oolong, and Blueberry (black tea). These will have to wait for another post! Now onto the Creamy Nut Oolong!

The first thing I noticed about the dry blend was how strong the aroma was. I could smell it the second I opened the tin. Like the name implied, there was a rich nutty and earthy smell. Looking at the blend, I could see the caramel pieces, almond slices, sunflower petals, and safflower. The wet blend had a similar aroma as the dry but almost smelled more savoury and roasted.

The golden liquor had a mild nutty aroma. As expected, the blend had a very strong but comforting nutty taste, along with some lingering sweetness. I tried re-steeping the blend to see how it would hold up, and I found that the sweetness went away. I assume that most of that sweetness came from the caramel. However, there was still a strong nutty flavour.

The big takeaway from this was if you enjoy nutty blends, this is the blend for you! I’m glad that I have 50 grams of this because I’ve already had a few cups of this and I just got it a few weeks ago (4/5 rating)!
