This is my third time trying Bluebird Tea Co. and I have enjoyed the teas that I have tried so far. I will be trying three black teas, from straight to dessert blends. I personally like black teas, so I’m eager to try them out!

Vicky’s Sponge Cake
Description: Think vanilla sponge cake with a dollop of raspberry jam!”
Review: The blend was an eye catcher, purely because of the full freeze dried raspberries. It had a sweet fruity and floral aroma that was very pleasant. I was happy that the blend smelled nice because I’ve had dried fruits in my blends before which had a unsavoury aroma.
After steeping, there was a lovely floral and fruity aroma with some faint earthiness. However, the appearance of the wet leaf wasn’t very appealing because it looked a bit like a pile of mush.
Regardless, the golden yellow liquor had a slight pink undertone, which I think was from the raspberries. Aroma wise, the liquor smelled a bit like candied strawberries. There was a nice sweet raspberry and strawberry flavour and some lingering coconut at the tail end of the sip. I admit I was expecting more of a vanilla taste because of the name of the blend.
To get some real flavour from this blend, I found that I needed to use a heaping teaspoon, rather than just a teaspoon because the raspberries and raspberry leaves took up a lot of space. The first time I tried the blend, it tasted a bit like medicine because had more raspberry leaves than tea leaves.
This might be nice for someone who wants a sweeter black tea. I would classify this as a dessert tea with fruity notes (3/5 rating).

Earl Grey Creme
Description: “Award-winning, fresh + fragrant vanilla Earl Grey tea.”
Review: Earl Grey is a classic tea blend, that many brands have made! I wanted to see how Bluebird Tea would make it. The leaves were a dark brown – almost black – with a scatter of cornflowers. There was the very iconic earl grey aroma: bergamot with a hint of sweetness. The bergamot aroma was very strong and a bit overpowering.
After steeping, the leaves became a rich chocolate brown colour. The bergamot aroma was toned down and blended better with the earthy aroma of the black tea. I was expecting a very strong bergamot aroma from the liquor because that is what I am accustomed too, but it was actually rather subtle. The liquor had a dark orange-brown colour.
It tasted floral, sweet, and earthy. I am a bit torn on this one since it is very different than most Earl Greys I am used to, which have a bold bergamot and vanilla taste and aroma. I was unable to taste any vanilla.
I think this would be a nice blend for someone who enjoys Earl Greys, but would also enjoy a milder version (3/5 rating).

Bluebird’s Great British Cuppa
Description: “Bluebird’s House Blend – The classic English Breakfast tea!”
Review: English Breakfast is another classic blend! This was made with three different black teas and had dark brown leaves. There was a nice earthy, and malt aroma from the Assam tea. I quite enjoy Assams!
The wet leaves had a similar appearance as the Earl Grey Cream and became a chocolate brown after steeping. While the malt aroma was most present in the dry leaves, it became sweeter and chocolate-like with some mild earthiness after steeping.
The liquor was a dark reddish-brown and had a rich earthy aroma. For an English Breakfast, it was actually much sweeter than I am used too. There was also a tiny bit of astringency at the tail end.
I found this a nice twist on the English Breakfast blend, and I could actually see myself drinking this in the morning. I found it milder than some of the more strong and brisk English Breakfasts that I’m used too, which I think is a nice way to gradually start the day (4/5 rating).

Final Thoughts
Like I mentioned at the start, I do enjoy black teas and black tea blends. I found all of these enjoyable! Clearly, for me, the star was Bluebird’s Great British Cuppa, but I think the other ones also taste great!
These are the last of my Bluebird Tea Co. Teas for now. I really enjoyed them and this is a brand I would consider buying from again in the future!
