CitizenTea’s Chocolate Hazelnut | Tea Review

I had come across CitizenTea’s brand a while back when I was lucky enough to win a tea from them in an IG giveaway! After that, I was hooked and I was so excited when I saw that they had an advent calendar, called the 25 Day Tea Journey! For the next 25 days, I will be posting a tea a day and bringing you along with me on the journey. Then I will post my final thoughts on the 26th!

Description: “Black tea, chocolate and hazelnut brittle make up for a sweet treat.”

Review: I will admit, I am always a fan of teas that have coffee-like qualities, so when I smelled this one, it reminded me more of a mocha or a coffee than it did chocolate hazelnut (not that that is a bad thing!). It had sweet, earthy, cocoa and coffee aromas combined into one, which smelled lovely. After the infusion, the wet leaf was more earthy whereas the orange-red liquor had a very faint cocoa fragrance. Due to the brittle (I assume) there was a bit of an oily film on the liquor.

At first sip, when the tea was hot, there was a very faint cocoa and nutty notes. I found that the chocolate flavour of the blend came out most during the aftertaste that lingered. Sometimes I find with blends, letting it cool down helps bring out the flavours more. So, I let it cool down slightly. The flavour, thankfully, did become more pronounced. I still wished that it was a bit stronger, but I’m glad that I let it cool down (3/5 rating).

I love chocolate and hazelnut together! I think I'd really enjoy this blend. I can imagine it would make for a really good tea latte

Yes! I was considering adding a splash of milk or making it a latte!
