When I first smelled this at the D by Daniel shop, it had a rich smell of vanilla and coconut. What’s not to love?
Description: “Are you crazy for coconuts? Does vanilla make you smile? Then get your tastebuds ready for some white tea goodness!”
Instructions: Steep for 2-3 minutes in 90° water
Review: In my experience, people seem pretty divided when it comes to coconut. For myself, I tend to have phases when it comes to coconut. There are times where I want coconut everything – water, food, desserts, and of course teas blends! Then, there are other times where I’m not feeling the coconut so much. That being said, right now, coconut is in again!
When I gave the dry blend an initial whiff, it was sweet, coconutty, with strong floral notes. The second the water hit the tea leaves, there was a strong burst of coconut smell in the air. After a 2 minute infusion with 8oz of water, the wet blend was mostly earthy and sweet, and the coconut was more muted. However, The orange-brown liquor retained a strong coconut and vanilla scent that reminded me of cake.
The dominant flavours of the blend were coconut and vanilla, with some lingering floral notes from the rose buds and blue mallow flowers at the back of the mouth. It tasted like a coconut macaroon, which is generally made out of flaked or shredded coconut and vanilla extract and dipped in chocolate.
At times, I find letting the liquor cool when it comes to blends helps the flavours develop and meld better together. In this case, I found that the floral notes and sweetness from the white tea is what I tasted first, followed by a strong burst of coconut. Despite knowing there is no chocolate in the tea, it is something that I kept tasting. Therefore, if you like coconut, vanilla, coconut macaroons, or want a dessert tea, this is the one for you (3.5/5 rating)!
