I love maple syrup, plain and simple – I enjoy the taste and it reminds me of Canada. So, when I saw this blend at the shop, with its warm sweet woody smell, I had to pick it up!

Review: The dry blend definitely had a smell that reminded me of rich maple syrup – it was woodsy, sweet and almost caramel. Trying this a few times, I enjoyed the 4 minute infusion time over the 5 minute infusion because I found that it became overly sweet after the 5th infusion. The wet infusion was more fruity and the leaves had not completely unfurled. The liquor was an amber maple syrup colour and had a thicker mouthfeel, like thin maple syrup. It smelled like baked goods.
I was pretty perplexed with this blend after trying it a few times until I realized it had a sweet spot. If it is too hot, there isn’t much flavour. However, if it is too cool, it becomes cloyingly sweet. There are a few short minutes where the blend wasn’t overly sweet and had a nice amount of flavour.
In that timeframe, the blend is woodsy, earthy, and caramel, with a pretty strong wave of sweetness that coats the mouth. I can see why it was named after maple syrup, but to me, it is much more reminiscent of baked goods. However, the cooler the liquor becomes, the more cloyingly sweet it becomes, and because the liquor has a thicker mouthfeel, it really lingers.
If anyone is familiar with DAVIDsTEA’s Butter Sencha or Movie Night, it had that same slight buttery artificial taste. When I was finishing up this review, I noticed that the DAVIDsTEA website mentioned that this would be good as a latte, and I could see the potential in that if they cut down the sweetness in this selection (2.5/5 rating).

I recently had a maple oolong at a local tea shop, it was ok. Sounds similar to this one from David’s.

Heck yes, I love maple syrup! I’ve actually been using it as a sweetener for my teas lately.
I’m a fan of Adagio Tea’s Maple Creme Oolong, so I’ve been tempted to try DavidsTea’s Maple Oolong as well. I’m afraid This one sounded so good until I discovered stevia listed in the ingredients though…
I haven’t ever tried Adagio, but I am now excited!
