One ingredient that I circle back to every few months is ginger. As a fan of lemon and ginger, this blend was a must-try for me!
Description: “[T]his incredibly juicy lemon myrtle blend with just the right balance of fiery ginger root.”
Instructions: 1 heaped teaspoon* per cup | 100° | 4+ mins | without milk
* The recommendations on the packaging stated 1 teaspoon, which is what I used when tasting the blend for this review
Review: What drew me to this blend initially was the name! It used to be called “Zig-a-Zing, Ahh!” which was eye-catching. However, I can understand why Bird & Blend decided to have a more descriptive name. That being said, the dry blend had a, no surprise, lemon/citrus, floral, and gingery smell which tickled the nose. It was various shades of tan, yellow, orange, and random pops of deep red from the apple pieces and rosehip.
When the hot water hit the dry blend, the smell of lemons filled the air. After brewing for more than 4 minutes, the liquor smelled like ginger beer. It was a cloudy pale amber colour with specks at the bottom of the cup. The sip started with a hit of ginger, followed by lemon/citrus, and then was faintly floral. The ginger lingered in the mouth and tickled the back of the throat. The wet blend smelled like the dry blend and was mostly ginger and herbal smelling. It also looked like the dry blend but rehydrated.
Overall, this was a soothing, comforting, and relaxing blend. I found it nice to sip on right before bedtime. Since ginger is the first ingredient, the blend does have a bit of a kick in the back of the throat and had a slight burn. I liked that bit of heat at the end of the sip! This would be a nice blend for someone who likes ginger, lemon, or looking for a citrus or ginger caffeine-free blend (3/5 rating).
