Lately, I’ve been enjoying carbonated drinks and craving ginger ale, so this tea blend was calling to me!
Description: “We like to think of it as a natural soda pop that tastes as fun as the ’90s were to live through.”
Instructions: 1 – 2 Perfect Spoonful of tea | 16 oz | 95°C/200°F | 3 – 5 mintues
Review: I tend to drink my teas hot, so I tasted this blend hot as well, regardless of the iced tea recommendations. After cutting and opening the pouch, there was the smell of berries and ginger that tickled my nose (and caused me to sneeze!). Adding the blend into a clear cup allowed me to watch a trail of pale pink liquid slowly seep out from the tea bag and turn the rest of the water into a deep cranberry colour.
After 4 minutes, the liquor smelled like a fruit punch with a hibiscus and ginger twist. Like how the blend smelled, the flavours also developed the same way in the mouth: berry/fruity and floral. The tart and spicy notes created an interesting sensation in the back of the throat as the tartness was followed by a faint spicy tickle from the ginger. The liquor left a floral and fruity finish in the mouth. When cooled, the liquor was more mellow and the hibiscus and tartness had somewhat diminished.
The wet leaves smelled like ginger, hibiscus, and what I assume to be yaupon (as I am not overly familiar with the ingredient).
While I did not taste it this way, I could see why the description on the website said the blend was like a soda pop! I think adding a bit of sparkling water or putting it in the fridge overnight could have re-created that experience! While the hibiscus was the third ingredient on the list, I found this blend quite balanced and it is not as dominating as it can be in other blends. In this case, all the flavours were complimentary. What I enjoyed about this blend is that it is low in caffeine and does not feel like it. I found myself drinking the liquor and wanting more (4/5 rating).
Note: The night before I posted this review, I noticed this tea is out of stock. Hopefully, it comes back! If not, DAVIDsTEA has a range of other fruity/floral blends.
