What-Cha’s Yunnan Golden Tippy Black Tea | Tea Review

The Yunnan golden tippy black teas I’ve had in the past tend to have a sweet cocoa taste. Since it is a taste profile I enjoy, I was delighted to try a new one!

Description: “It has a smooth yet full malty taste with sweet honeyed hints.”

Instructions: 2 teaspoons per cup | 90°C/194°C | 3-4 minutes

Review: The dark twisted dry leaves had a pop of bright golden orange from the fuzzy tips. The leaves smelled like opening a can of cocoa or a hot chocolate mix – it was warm, sugary, woody, mineral, and cocoa.

After brewing 2 teaspoons in a mug, the liquor became a dark amber-reddish colour and smelled like a chocolate croissant. It tasted like grains, malt, baked goods, and cocoa. It was worth tasting the liquor cool since it was much sweeter and maltier and reminded me of a rich hot chocolate. A lingering sweet malt taste remained in the mouth. The wet chocolate brown unfurled leaves carried a woody and cocoa smell.

As a fan of Yunnan black teas, it is no surprise that I also enjoyed this one! The taste was sweet and malty, and reminded me of baked goods or hot chocolate, two things I enjoy! I would recommend this to anyone who also enjoys black tea with a sweeter taste profile or black teas from Yunnan (4/5 rating).
