Bird & Blend Tea Co.’ Moondrop Dreams | Tea Review

With a cute name like “Moondrop Dreams,” I had to try this blend to see what it would taste like!

Description: “Ground control to Teabirds – this Space OddiTEA infusion of rooibos, lavender & lemon may just be the answer to your Moondrop Dreams.”

Instructions: Brew 4+ mins | 100°C \ With or without milk

Review: When it comes to teas, I find myself leaning more toward caffeine-free tisanes lately. It’s a nice treat for myself as I’m watching something before bedtime.

The dry blend had a sweet perfumed floral smell of rosehip and lavender which combined together followed by the citrus smell of the various peels. Visually, there was a nice scattering of rosehip, lavender, and citrus peels mixed with the red-brown rooibos. Since it is a tisane blend, I let it brew for over 4 minutes (as recommended on the packaging) to allow all the flavours to develop. I even pushed the steep time up to 6 minutes.

The deep reddish brown liquor had a vanilla and floral smell. The sip first started off with sweet vanilla, then melded into citrus, gradually pivoted to lavender/floral, and ended with some honey and woodiness from the rooibos. The liquor began with a creamy consistency but ended off drying on the tongue.

Since the packaging mentioned it could be brewed with or without milk, I added a splash of oat milk which gave the liquor a nice creamy consistency. I usually don’t prefer additives in herbal blends as it can taste “off,” but this was actually pleasant! The oat milk highlighted the citrus and floral notes. The wet leaves had a sweet lavender smell which wasn’t as evident in the actual taste of the liquor which was masked by the stronger vanilla and citrus notes.

While I didn’t see it in the ingredients list, the taste also reminded me of lime or lemongrass. I liked that this blend was not finicky and I could brew it for over 4 minutes and it still tasted good. The dominant notes were vanilla and citrus, however, the floral notes make a lovely soft appearance as well. This was a nice relaxing blend and I enjoyed how it smelled and tasted. It was the right amount of sweetness right before bedtime (3.75/5 rating)!
