52Teas’ Pineapple Bacon Rooibos | Tea Review

Description:  “I started with organic red rooibos and added bacon and pineapple flavors.”

Review: Awhile back, I bought a mystery bag of teas from 52Teas. This is actually my last tea from them. What an adventure! 52Teas, without a doubt, make some interesting blends! That being said, I admit that I saved this one for last because I wasn’t sure what to expect. Vegan bacon and freeze-dried pineapples, admittedly, are not common in tea.

When I gave the blend a whiff, I’m not sure what it was, but it was mildly off-putting because it didn’t smell savoury or sweet but akin to very artificial candy or medicine flavouring. That being said, I wanted to give it a fair try! When I looked at the blend, I would have never have guessed that the bacon bits were vegan. Granted, I’ve also never had vegan bacon.

The liquor had the same aroma as the dry blend, but it was even stronger. It was a nice clear bright reddish-orange. I was rather surprised by how it tasted – it was earthy, sweet and fruity, and it ended off savoury. That being said, it sadly had a bit of an aftertaste that lingered and that I wasn’t a fan of. I imagine that it might be the vegan bacon.

I have very mixed feelings about the blend. It was very unique for sure, but I don’t think, at least personally, that I am a fan of vegan bacon. That being said, I am still glad that I got it because now I can say that I have tried this interesting blend. I would happily get more from 52Teas, but maybe next time, I will ask to avoid this ingredient (2.5/5 rating).
