August Uncommon Tea’s Far Afield | Tea Review

With a tickle at the back of my throat, a ginger and citrus blend seemed like the perfect thing to drink!

Description: “Far Afield is a magical blend of ginger with tangy tangerine and earthy sage.”

Instructions: 212°f/ 100°c | 3.5 g | 10oz/ 300 ml | 4 – 5 mins | reinfuse up to two times

Review: Right from the pouch, the mixture of citrus pieces, ginger, and various herbs had a strong ginger smell that made me sneeze! After brewing for 4 to 5 minutes, the liquor became a deep amber orange and was slightly cloudy. It smelled herbaceous and of ginger and citrus.

As with the smell, the ginger was also the most forward and it tickled the back of my throat. The taste was soothing with notes of citrus pith, lemon, herbs, and ginger. Once cooled, the pithy citrus and lemon verbena taste were more evident, along with some bitterness at the end of the sip.

Brewing the wet blend for an additional infusion resulted in a similar cloudy yellow colour liquor. The flavour was muted and there was a trace taste of ginger and citrus. The wet blend was made up of various ingredients and had a ginger and citrus smell.

For one of my sessions, tried I brewed the first infusion for over 5 minutes as some tisanes need a bit of extra time to release all the flavours. However, I still found the taste was no stronger than the recommended suggestion. Overall, I liked the taste, but I found it milder than what I expected based on the smell. Normally, when it comes to ginger blends, I want a spicy kick, which this blend did not have. I also personally did not taste the sage either. That being said, this may be nice for someone who enjoys mild ginger or citrus tisane blends (2.5/5 rating).
