August Uncommon Tea’s Big Easy | Tea Review

On a rainy summer afternoon, all I want is something bright and cheerful to drink. Therefore, this sweet green tea blend sounded like a lovely contender!

Description: “When you taste it, you’ll swear you just had a bite of pineapple cake and a caramel beignet.”

Instructions: 175°f / 80°c | 3.5 g tea | 10 oz | 300 ml | 4-5 mintues. longer is stronger | reinfuse up to two times

Review: The dry blend had a wide range of ingredients alongside the sencha green tea such as pieces of fruit, caramel chunks, and lemongrass. Unsurprisingly, it smelled of citrus and floral, followed by candied pineapples, caramel, and cake.

After steeping for 4 to 5 minutes, the liquor became a cloudy tan-yellow colour. It smelled juicy, sweet, and tropical with notes of pineapples, citrus, and grains. Much like how the dry blend smelled, the taste was sweet, fruity, caramel, and floral/roses with faint hints of citrus. It reminded me of tropical drinks or the pineapple linzer from Té Company Tea in New York City. When cooled, the liquor had a similar taste but was slightly more vegetal, along with pineapple and citrus notes and bitterness at the end of the sip. There was a nice pineapple sweetness that lingered in the mouth.

Infusing the leaves for a second infusion for 4 to 5 minutes, there was mild a pineapple and fruity taste, but the flavour was much more mellow. Regardless if the first infusion was 4 or 5 minutes, the second infusion was mild and I preferred only infusing the blend once. The wet leaves smelled vegetal, fruity, and of pineapples. The sencha leaves were olive-coloured and broken.

Overall, this was the tropical blend I was hoping for! It was bright, fruity, and sweet. This is a nice blend for someone who enjoys sweeter teas or likes pineapples or citrus notes. I did not try this iced, but I could see it being nice as well (3.5/5 rating).
