With the name ‘Fluffy Panda,’ this blend was too cute to pass up once I saw the dry blend with the dark green leaves and the pale jasmine blossoms, mimicking panda colours!
Description: “Hand-picked, hand-sorted green tea pairs with aromatic loose leaf jasmine blossoms and lychee for a unique brewing experience” – via Kitten and the Bear
Instructions: 1 1/2 teaspoons | 1 cup | 100°C/212°F / 3-5 min
Review: I initially used the recommendations from Kitten and the Bear, however, I found the brew was intensely artificial lychee flavoured, so I pivoted to Par Avion Tea’s instructions. Par Avion Tea listed the water temperature at 212°F vs 175°F that Kitten and the Bear was suggesting. This review will be using Par Avion’s directions.
The dry leaves had a floral and jasmine with a faintly vegetal smell. The dark forest green leaves were almost black in colour and contrasted against the pale yellow jasmine petals.
After 3 minutes of boiling water, the liquor was a slightly cloudy dark amber colour. The smell was floral, sweet, and fruity. Since the water was hotter, it allowed for the jasmine flavour to develop and the floral note was much stronger with the lychee following behind. The end of the sip ended with some astringency at the back of the mouth. When cooled, the liquor tasted like lychee candy or sweet vitamin gummies.
The wet brewed blend had a lychee and grassy smell. The dark green wet leaves were broken among the pale yellow jasmine blossoms.
The green tea taste was not as evident in this blend. This blend falls into the ‘flavoured’ blend category, where the flavouring dominated the taste. This is neither good nor bad, but not my preferred type of blend. However, for anyone who enjoys flavoured teas with floral and lychee-forward notes, then this is for you (2.75/5 rating)!
