Over the last year, I have tasted a wide spectrum of teas from Renegade Tea Estate in Georgia. I am sad that this is my last one from the 2022 harvest!
Description: “[T]he taste has the flavor of ripe berries and fruits and a lot of sweetness.”
Instructions: 98 °C / 208 °F | 3 g | 250 ml | 4 – 5 min
Review: The dry wiry leaves had a sweet berry and roasted smell. Occasionally, there was a scattering of golden red colour from the tips of the twisted leaves. The black tea was harvested in September 2022 and is of the Chinese, Assmica, and Cambian varieties of Camellia Sinensis. This is the 5th year that Renegade Tea Estate has produced this year!
After brewing for 4 minutes, the deep reddish-amber coloured liquor imparted a malty, stone-fruity sweetness, and woody taste. A nutty roasted hazelnut note sat at the back of the throat and lingered. When brewing the tea for 5 minutes, the liquor leaned more woody and roasted/charcoal, with the taste of malt and cocoa nibs. The end of the sip had a sweet cherry taste and dryness. The cooled liquor is more bitter and woody, but there is still a nice amount of sweetness.
The milk and dark chocolate coloured leaves smelled woody, sweet, and fruity.
Overall, of all the teas I tasted of the 2022 harvest season from Renegade Tea Estate, this one was my favourite! It had the right amount of sweetness and was both cocoa/chocolaty and fruity. I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys black tea that sits on the sweeter/dessert side. I am also happy to announce I just received my shipping notification for the 2023 harvest of teas. I can’t wait to share with everyone next year (4.5/5 rating).
