T by Daniel’s Polo with the Prince | Tea Review

I still remember reading about Daniel and Renata serving this blend to Prince Charles! That piqued my interest because if it is good enough for a prince, it is good enough for me!

Description: “Can you imagine playing a game of Polo with the Prince of Wales? Pretty awesome thought, right?”

Instructions: Steep for 1-2 minutes in 100°C water

Review: When I first smelled the blend in the shop, I was actually surprised by how floral and lemony it was. When I think of “polo,” I had expected something grassy because it is an outdoor activity. However, that being said, I quite enjoyed how it smelled.

Later, when I was reading more about the blend on the website, I found out that some of the ingredients were included for a purpose. The purple Mallow flowers are meant to represent the HRH Royalty, the red cornflower petals are to celebrate Canada 150, and lastly, the yellow calendula and sunflower petals symbolize the “happiness and excitement of [the] unforgettable moment[.]” That is so sweet, and to top it off, it smells lovely too!

After I infused the blend, the wet leaf reminded me of strawberry jam and a garden. It smelled very fresh and comforting. The liquor itself was a reddish brown and had a sweet berry-like character.

I found that the blend tasted very whimsical. It was sweet, fruity, and floral all rolled into one. Near the tail end, the deep earthy qualities of the black tea came through. Just when you think the flavour is all tapped out, like in a song after a lull, there is a crescendo and a second wave of fruity notes dance around on the tongue.

Having brewed this blend a few times now, I enjoyed it the best when it was steeped for a shorter amount of time. When it was steeped for longer, I picked up more of the earthy notes in comparison to the fruitier ones. Also, I normally like letting the liquor of blends cool down a bit so that the flavours have a chance to meld together. However, the cooler liquor had more astringency and muted the other flavours. 

Overall, I really enjoyed this tea. I liked that it had a range of flavours and actually had a lovely meaning and represented a special moment. I personally liked the more fruity and floral side, but if someone wants a more muted tea, it is still nice with a more dominate earthy side (4/5 rating).
