CitizenTea’s 2018 25 Day Tea Journey | Tea Review

This was the first year that CitizenTea put out this product. Since I was a huge fan of Creamy Nut Oolong, I knew I wanted to try this set out!

Description: “Countdown to the holidays with 25 days of tea! From fruity herbals to mellow greens to classic blacks, let this set take you on a 25 day tea journey. “

Review: Unlike other tea “advent calendars” this one came with 25 days. I put advent calendar in quotes because CitizenTea never claimed it was one, but instead calls it a journey. This was CitizenTea’s first year having this product, which from my understanding may have been a similar product to what they had as Teaopia.

Each blend comes in small white tins that have around 9 grams of each, with some blends being heavier or lighter. A nice feature is there is a clear plastic window at the top of each lid so you can see what the tea is inside. The tins are also labelled underneath as well.

The tins were very compact and CitizenTea packed a lot of tea into each tin. Since they are so small and tightly packed, it can be a bit messy the first time taking tea/tisane out. The only thing I wished about the tins is that they were stackable.

My one “big” issue with the product is that there were no steeping instructions and each day I would have to check the website. While it is not the hardest thing to do, I noticed more of a contrast compared to when I was opening Bird and Blend’s 2018 Matcha Tea Advent Calander, who not only provided steeping suggestion but also additional recipes. If the steeping instructions at been on the flap of the box, that would have been a good addition.

That being said, I did like that on the back of the packing slip that there was some a description of each tea, and that on the back of the box there were ingredients for each blend directly under the name of a blend so that someone could quickly identify what was in the blend.

When it comes to the blends itself, since I had liked Creamy Nut Oolong so much, I knew that I would be in for a fun adventure. When I went to the shop to pick this up, the sales associate mentioned that a lot of the teas featured in this set were fan favourites/popular blends, with a few new blends for the holidays.

I think the first thing to get out of the way is to state that there is no way to like every single tea. That being said, there wasn’t a single tea that I overly disliked. I reviewed each tea individually ,so this post will focus more on the product as a whole. My Top 3 Teas were the Candied Almonds, Rooibos Caramel, and Tumeric Ginger. Listed below is a link to each the review I did for this product!

Final Thoughts

I have to say, I am pretty impressed with the brand and the product. While I may not have liked every single blend, there wasn’t one I overly disliked. I think that this is important to note because not everyone has the same taste, or likes and dislikes.

I thought the packaging was clean, classic and easy to use. I had a few small issues with it, such as the lack of steeping instructions, or the tins not being stackable, but honestly, that wasn’t even that major of an issue and it boils down to convenience. I would suggest this to someone who likes knowing what they are getting themselves into or want to try some of CitizenTea’s top blends (4/5 rating)!

The question of the post: What is your favourite tea advent calendar?
