Lately, black teas have become my go-to in the mornings, so I wanted to try this one!

Description: “A very special blend of premium high grown black and golden teas provide an exceptional orange pekoe flavour.”

Instructions: 1.5 tsp. per cup | 100°C/212°F |  5 – 7 minutes

Review: Despite Orange Pekoe being a classic black tea, I’ve only had it a few times! I remember as a child ordering it because I thought it was an orange flavoured tea (as many people do. It actually is in reference to the type of pluck!). So, you can imagine my disappointment when I received a bitter over-brewed cup of tea. However, when I saw this, I wanted to give Orange Pekoe another shot!

The dry tea was a mixture of steams and small thin wiry leaves with some of the leaves being more reddish brown and others dark brown. It had a lovely mild sweet malty smell. After infusing for 6 minutes, the leaves had unfurled and were mostly broken with an earthy musky smell.

The reddish-brown liquor had an earthy, sweet, and malt smell. The flavour mirrored the smell but with a hint of bitterness interwoven into the earthy sweetness of the liquor. I found it pleasant as it gave the liquor a bit of a bite. When it cooled, it was more drying in the back of the mouth. Overall, this would be a lovely tea in the morning or something to pair with a sweet (3.5/5 rating).
